Customer Case Study - Darren Reid
We sat down with Darren Reid recently who had just a Solar Panel System installed by Solar PV Energy into his home in North Cork.
Below Darren outlines the savings he has made since the installation, how hassle-free the whole process was and the benefits of our customer service and help with grant applications and more....
"I haven't paid an electricity bill in nearly 2 years!"
What made you decide to invest in solar PV system?
Sustainability and longevity. It was important to me to be able to control or erase my bills and since I live in a house that is solely powered and heated by electricity, a solar PV system made perfect sense to me. I crunched the numbers and I quickly realised that with a specific solar PV system, I wouldn’t have to pay for electricity from a provider. I would be selling to the grid during the summer months and using what I banked during the winter. This is to me means real sustainability and longevity. The system is in nearly 2 years and I haven't had to pay a bill since and I'm now selling electricity back to the grid and making money!.
How did you first hear about Solar PV Energy and what stood out to you about their service?
I did a lot of research to pick a company and I got lots of different quotes. I first discovered solar PV energy online. Some of the bigger companies sent pushy sales people out to discuss estimates. These bigger companies were also more expensive. I got two quotes with smaller companies, Solar PV energy being one. Two main things stood out to me. The price was competitive and it’s a family run business. I’d rather give my money to a family than a large company. Also, but not unique to solar PV energy, I was able to provide information to Clodagh and get a quote over email without a house visit. I found this approach easier to deal with.
Can you tell us about your first meeting with Thomas and Clodagh – how did they guide you through the process?
Clodagh went through everything with me when receiving the quote and when placing the order. I had done a lot of research at this time so I knew what I was looking for. For that reason I didn’t seek any specific advice from Clodagh regarding the system. I was kept informed each step of the way with delivery and install time frames. Communication from Clodagh was excellent. I first met Tom when he arrived for the installation.
What was the installation process like, from start to finish?
When Tom arrived out, he brought me through all options for where to run the cables and advised me on same. It was a two day installation, panels the first day and the inverter and wiring the second day. It was an extremely professional installation. Tom was able to identify a route for the cabling from the fuse board that allowed the cables to run inside the house rather than outside. As a result the installation was very neat and tidy and I am really happy with it.
Have you noticed any changes in your electricity bills or energy independence since installation?
I have not paid a single cent to my electricity provider since the installation of my Solar PV system nearly 2 yeas ago!. During the summer months, the system produces enough electricity to power the house and export a generous amount back to the grid. For this export, I receive credit to my electricity account. This credit then sustains me through the colder winter months, even running a heat pump. The credit lasts until next spring when the system is producing enough solar PV again to export back to the grid again and the cycle continues.
How did you find the communication and support from the Solar PV Energy team throughout the project?
I found communication and support excellent throughout the process. I have even had cause to reach out to Clodagh and Tom after the installation and found the support received top notch.
Would you recommend Solar PV Energy, Thomas, and Clodagh to others, and if so, why?
I have already done so and will continue to do so. For a small family run company, they are as professional and experienced as the bigger companies and know what they are doling. I found their prices competitive and the experience with them and the end result has exceeded my expectations. I am delighted I went with this company.
